Migrating Embedded Applications to a Multicore Environment with Linux

OVERVIEW: When considering a move to a multicore environment, the number one question embedded developers ask is "how do I leverage the work I've already done in my applications?" Though multicore hardware has provided improved performance for the embedded market, software developers are challenged with taking advantage of the millions of lines of single-threaded legacy code they have already written. This creates a paradigm shift in how developers must think about and implement future programs. This webinar will discuss the benefits of embedded Linux as a solution with multicore and help systems engineers consider what's important as they make the transition. We will conclude with an overv...

MEN Mikro Elektronik GmbH

8 UART Interfaces for Expansion of 3U CompactPCI® Systems

8 channels on a slim 4 HP
Compatible with 16550D
RS232 or RS422/485, isolated
High data rates up to 921,600 bits/s
-40 to +85°C operation temperature
..

MEN Mikro Elektronik completes its 3U CompactPCI product range by a new board with eight channels for individual extension of COM interfaces within a system. A minimum availability for the next 10 years guarantee that the user´s project is future-safe.

Rugged and Long-Term Available
F216 is a CompactPCI board in single Eurocard format that is equipped with eight 16550D compatible UART channels. Since all channels are led to one 78-pin D-Sub connector the card needs only one slot on the CompactPCI bus. The two UART controllers of F216 provide four full-duplex serial channels each. The physical layers are integrated on the board: each of the eight channels can be individually configured as RS232, RS422 or RS485. Depending on the physical interface type data rates up to 921,...

GREEN HILLS SOFTWARE Announces Secure Device Management

Remotely Manage, Diagnose, and Upgrade Embedded Systems with Confidence...

Green Hills Software, Inc., the technology leader in device software optimization (DSO) and real-time operating systems (RTOS), has announced the world´s first secure device management solution. Green Hills Software´s Device Management Solution enables customers to securely perform in-field and remote diagnostics, debugging, upgrade, and management of deployed software.

The Problem

Traditionally, embedded systems have been relatively immune to remote tampering: most devices simply lack a built-in capability for remote patching, upgrading, or modifying software. However, device management solutions preload the exact mechanism that hackers desire: a channel by which to infect, disable, and commandeer the system. Existing device management solutions are integrate...
