Their Responsibilities are:

The elimination of technical barriers to free trade The creation, coordination, approval, and promotion of standards that satisfy the national interests of the country in question The accreditation of standards development groups The monitoring and coordination with the standards-developing activities of other national organizations The performance of certain test and certification functions The accreditation of testing and certification organizations The handling of selected standards-testing functions from the standards organizations of other countries The provision of information about foreign national standards and international standards The creation of standards-based regulations The representation of the country in question in international standards bodies (e.g. ISO, the IEC, and ITU-T) and, where applicable, in regional standards bodies (e.g., CEN and CENELEC)
